HALO JEMBER - Rezti’s Batik offers a fresh look at Jember hand-drawn batik tradition, using bright colors and modern designs to bring batik closer to young fashion lovers while honoring the region’s rich textile history. Their work is a perfect mix of old and new, designed to keep Jember’s batik vibrant and alive.
“This is the first batik producer in Ambulu. A must-visit for batik lovers! So many beautiful patterns, and the owner and staff are extremely friendly,” said Zahra, one of many satisfied visitors who found both beauty and warmth in their experience at Reztis Batik.
Founded by Lestari Kusumawati in late 2012, Reztis Batik began as a small workshop with a big mission: to revive and preserve the art of Batik Jember in South Jember, a region not traditionally known for its batik heritage. In its early years, the team focused on mastering the craft and educating local communities about the cultural significance and production techniques of batik.
By 2014, Reztis Batik had officially registered its trademark with Indonesia’s Directorate General of Intellectual Property, marking a pivotal step toward establishing its identity as a proud purveyor of Jember signature batik. The business grew through a community-driven approach, involving local housewives, creative youth, and individuals with disabilities, empowering and uplifting the surrounding community through shared artistry.
Reztis Batik is known for its unique patterns that come from the culture and nature of northern Jember. The designs incorporate tobacco leaves, coffee plants, the sea, and Pasadeng cultural symbols, which are iconic representations of Jember’s natural and cultural landscape. Reztis makes authentic Jember hand-drawn batik that tells the story of the area through each design by combining artistic creativity with tradition.
While many batik artists use synthetic dyes, Reztis focuses on using locally found natural materials like cocoa shells, jambal bark, mahogany wood, and indigo leaves, which are relatively easy to find in the Jember area, to give their fabrics a truly authentic and earthy look.
Reztis makes a variety of batik, including superb hand-drawn fabrics, stamped batik, and combination batik, to meet the needs of customers with varying budgets and preferences. Their selection now includes ready-to-wear fashion goods like scarves, bucket hats, and outerwear with their signature batik motifs, which they hope will attract young people.
As Lestari explains, “Young people tend to prefer ready-to-wear items rather than just fabric, so we developed products that fit modern lifestyles while still showcasing our cultural heritage.”
Reztis Batik actively promotes its collections through social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where it engages with a broad audience and highlights popular color trends, such as sage green. This digital presence helps spread the appeal of Batik Jember beyond traditional boundaries.
All production takes place locally at their workshop in Tegalsari Village, Ambulu District, Jember. Sustainability is a key priority; liquid waste is filtered and reused for fish ponds and watering plants, while solid waste is recycled for other purposes. This eco-conscious approach aligns with their commitment to “green industry” practices, setting a positive example in the textile sector.
Price
For pricing, Reztis Batik offers a range that reflects both craftsmanship and accessibility. Hand-drawn batik cloth starts at around IDR 250,000, while combination batik begins from IDR 150,000. Their fashion accessories, such as scarves, bucket hats, and outerwear, are available from approximately IDR 50,000, with prices varying depending on fabric quality, size, and personalization. This flexible price range makes their products appealing for both first-time buyers and collectors looking for something special.
Their wares have found buyers all around Indonesia, from Surabaya and Papua to Jakarta, and even beyond, in countries like the Maldives, Poland, the Netherlands, and Japan. Thanks to visitors or cooperation with approved exporters, several things have made their way abroad.
In 2024, Reztis Batik proudly earned 2nd place in the East Java SME Achievement Awards, a testament to its growing reputation and significant contribution to the local economy.
Looking ahead, Reztis plans to broaden its product line by introducing sarongs and decorative wall hangings, aiming to reach new markets and share the beauty of Jember signature batik with a wider audience.
With a perfect blend of tradition and innovation, Reztis Batik continues to keep the spirit of Jember’s textile heritage alive, inviting everyone to wear a story, not just fabric.
