For Erwan, the experience of sipping Legendaris Koka’s blend was not just about flavour, but also about the feeling of being appreciated as a customer, receiving a quality product that feels luxurious without being expensive.
In a town known for its coffee culture, Legendaris Koka brings something new to the table, functional, healthy coffee made from local ingredients with a focus on wellbeing. Founded by Tutuk Kurnia Wahyuningtias, the brand was born not from a background in coffee but from a desire to explore something different.
Her first steps were guided by curiosity and inspiration from friends who were already involved in the coffee business. After joining the Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Institute (Puslitkoka), she spent two years studying coffee processing and market demand. From that process two standout creations came out: Rice Bran Coffee and Cardamom Coffee, which she named “Kopi Rice Bran” and “Kopi Kapulogo.”
What Makes It Different?
Unlike conventional brews, Legendaris Koka's Rice Bran Coffee is a mixture of roasted coffee and finely ground rice bran. The rice bran, a by-product from the rice husk, adds a nutty, cereal-like flavour and contains high fiber.
“Rice bran coffee tastes like we drink coffee, but with a cereal flavor. It's good for people who are trying to lose weight,” Tutuk explained. It’s smooth, filling, and ideal for health-conscious drinkers.
On the other hand, the Cardamom Coffee, or “Kopi Kapulogo,” is a spiced herbal blend made with ginger, cinnamon, and, of course, cardamom. This comforting drink is perfect for cool mornings or after meals, helping with digestion and circulation.
Made in Jember, Shared Worldwide
The beans used in all blends are sourced directly from farmers in Silo, Baban Village, Jember. Roasting and mixing are done at home, managed by Tutuk and her husband. The process is small-scale but focused on quality. Each sachet or package is blended with care, targeting both local coffee lovers and a growing base of international fans.
Legendaris Koka has sent orders to Hong Kong, with repeat buyers every few months. Some sample products have also reached Africa through trade expo events. Locally, they’ve shipped to Papua, Manado, Pekanbaru, and other Indonesian cities.
Affordable & Functional
One of the brand’s strengths is accessibility. Healthy coffee products are offered in various formats and price points to reach different audiences. The smaller sachet packs, typically five sachets per bundle, weighing around 50–60 grams, are priced affordably at around IDR 35,000.
For those who prefer larger quantities, Legendaris Koka also offers 250g packs of Arabica, Robusta, and Rosca (a blend of Arabica and Robusta) ranging from IDR 40,000 to 60,000. There is even a drip version of Rosca Coffee at around IDR 40,000 per 30g pack. Whether you are a casual sipper, a health-conscious drinker, or a gift-giver looking for well-packaged options, there is something for everyone.
Direct Selling and Community Support
Tutuk prefers to sell her products offline and through WhatsApp, saying, “Usually, it's either in person or through WhatsApp.” She also uses Shopee and Instagram occasionally. Beyond sales, she collaborates with local tourism groups, such as the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), and regularly participates in national exhibitions, including Trade Expo Indonesia.
Appealing to Younger Markets
To attract younger audiences, Legendaris Koka is developing trendy coffee innovations, such as coffee milkshakes and fruit-flavored coffees (strawberry, kiwi, and more). She also plans to launch a special coffee syrup for cafes and home brewers looking for custom flavours.
Also, Legendaris Koka is not only known for its innovative coffee products but also for its creative chocolate innovations.
Vision for the Future
Tutuk's long-term goal is to empower others through training and knowledge sharing. She wants to offer hands-on workshops and community development through coffee. Most importantly, she believes innovation is the key to survival.
“We must never stop innovating products. With innovation, the business will continue to run and will be even better,” she affirmed.
