HALO JEMBER - Located in Jember’s fertile lands, Ketakasi Kopi reflects the dedication of local farmers through its robusta coffee and handpicked green bean robusta, sourced directly from agricultural cooperatives, offering a taste of Jember’s rich soil and the passion behind it. More than just producing coffee, Ketakasi builds a strong community that supports sustainable farming and quality at every step, ideal for those who appreciate coffee with a meaningful story.
“The packaging is very attractive, and the price is standard. It tastes great, especially the Robusta coffee, and is now the best coffee in Jember,” said Indah, one of Ketakasi’s loyal customers.
She also praised the warm welcome she received during her visit, saying the place had a friendly atmosphere and served her a complimentary glass of freshly brewed coffee, an experience that made her want to return.
It's not just a coffee brand; Ketakasi Coffee is a thriving coffee community built on care, teamwork, and joy in the area. The name “Ketakasi” comes from the name of a group of farmers in Sidomulyo village, Silo sub-district, Jember. They are called Kelompok Tani Kopi Asli Sidomulyo. Local farmers started this company because they wanted to find a better and more sustainable way to sell their Robusta coffee.
Before Ketakasi was established, small farmer groups had to deal with problems like prices that changed all the time and buyers they couldn't depend on. These farmers were able to keep prices stable and avoid being taken advantage of by middlemen by creating Ketakasi as a single selling gate. This approach has not only increased profits but also brought the coffee community closer together.
“We hope to avoid that, that's why we want the farming products in Sidomulyo to be sold one door, at Ketakasi,” said Ahmad Hudhori Fadil, one of the Ketakasi administrators.
Robusta coffee, which is grown mostly in Jember, is at the heart of Ketakasi's selection. The beans get a strong, deep flavor from this environment, which coffee fans like. Each harvest is carefully put into three grades: Grade 1 has the biggest and best beans, Grade 2 has beans that are middle size, and Grade 3 has beans that are small. Robusta Grade 1 is their best-selling item. It's liked by local coffee shops and roasters because it has a full flavor and a clean finish.
Ketakasi also supplies green bean robusta for bulk orders, serving cafes, roasters, and coffee businesses seeking quality raw materials. The packaging is thoughtfully designed to preserve freshness throughout shipping, ensuring customers receive top-notch beans.
Most of Ketakasi’s beans are processed using the traditional dry method. However, they have also experimented with the full-wash process, which is typically reserved for premium buyers or export contracts. This method produces a cleaner, brighter flavor profile but requires extra technical skill and market demand, so it is used selectively based on specific buyer requests.
To improve the quality of their beans, Ketakasi gives farmers training, helps them with their farming, and makes changes after the harvest. Over 90% of their Grade 1 Robusta coffee now comes from cherries that are hand-picked when they are at their ripest, a crucial step in producing specialty coffee.
“The economy in Sidomulyo has increased dramatically because of coffee,” said Dhori, as locals often call him.
Looking ahead, Ketakasi aspires to export its coffee directly without relying on intermediaries. While partnerships currently support international distribution, independence would bring greater profits and global recognition for Sidomulyo’s exceptional coffee.
